The best mole trap is the one that you learn how to use effectively. No different then trapping any other animal. You need to learn how to read the sign, pick a good location and set your trap to catch the mole.

Victor harpoon traps, Trapline Products mole traps, Victor out of site traps, Nash Loop traps and Wiretek Easy Mole Eliminator Traps are all good . Pick one and learn how to use it and get a few of those.

NOMOL traps do a great job on removing moles from a yard

I like the Dead Set mole trap, sold at Home Depot and Tractor supply store here in Michigan. I think they have the best trigger and ease of setting. I have several at home and a couple dozen at work, Work is a resort with 3 golf courses.

you're only allowed so many sunrises... I aim to see every one of them!

Pesticide for the grubs would be your best move in the long run. Now is the time to apply it with a broadcast spreader. The grubs come close to the surface this time of year. They are also close to the surface in the spring. Hit them again in the spring.

Not sure what variety of moles you are dealing with but Easterns primary food source is earthworms. Yes, they eat grubs too but just eliminating the grubs is not going to eliminate your moles. Learn to trap them or hire someone to do it for you.

I have a big golden lab and she gets determined to catch the mole she finds. By the end of the day we usually have a dead mole on our porch

I had problems earlier this year with moles.
I have some of those spike type traps. To me they're junk.
So I get some poison type bait called Prozap.
Easy to use.
Find a tunnel, take a stick, make a hole in the tunnel, put in 8-10 pellets and cover up the hole.
In 2 weeks they were gone and they haven't come back since
I see you're from Ia. So you have some kind of farm store nearby. I think I got mine at Theisens.

WISH I HAD MORE TIME TO TRAP!

What you state is essentially true, but moles generally do not completely destroy a lawn from hunting earthworms. In the fall and the spring, when the grubs come to the surface, the moles target the shallow grubs with a frenzy. If one eliminates the grubs in ones yard, it is likely that the moles will go next door to ravage the neighbors lawn when their grubs move shallow.
