Looking for suggestions on how to catch a beaver that is out smarting me. They are plugging a road culvert. I usually manage to solve this one with snares but this one totally avoids them. Ran snares for a week with no activity. Pulled them and made a castor set on the road bed and got the male the first night. Remade the set with sac oil from this one.
Culvert was worked last night but didn't work the set. This particular location is all bog on the edges except the road with two 36 inch culverts. I'm thinking if blind sets infont of the culverts but the water is knee deep or more. What do you guys think my chances for a hind foot catch are at this depth ?

have you tried 330s in front of culverts on h stands blind sets choked down could put couple next to each other. Look up dunnier system believe its called.. uses hog panels force around the culvert or problem area and puts 330s in between. Is the culvert currently plugged or is it cleared with water going throu? Jim would say use a Comstock double door.

Open the culverts completely to drain all the water, then blind set the channels submerged(they should have water)at natural pinch points between the house and the culverts. Also check upstream for further ponds and perhaps a lodge. If there is another pond upstream set the channel in the lowered water below the upper dam also with a few 330's submerged.
Lowering the water will restrict the beavers movements giving your sets 100% chance to produce if the beaver are coming down to re dam the culvert.

Culverts are clear and it's a good sized body of water. Closest colony is 1/2 mile up stream. Down stream it empties into a large river. As soon as I disturb anything above water it shuts down for probably a week.

If the beavers are living half a mile upstream, that is where you want to trap them out.
If you try to trap them near the culvert you'll be dikking around for a long time,as they will only travel there intermittently.

Seem to be on a streak of difficult ones. Had to get out Dobbins hanging bait stick set to get one off a lake lot. Property owner looked at me like I was nuts setting that one up. Now I have to adults in a condo association that are being difficult.
