Anybody use the montana 1.5's. They claim they are a replacement for the old monti' 1.5s. But i got some over the summer and they are a far cry from the old monti's. Not really impressed, the pan sets way to high above the jaws for my liking, just wanted to see what everybody elses opinion were

Crabtrap, I bought a dozen Montana 1.5 Long Line Specials out of the fur shed and I have to say that I'm intimidated to use them on mink. (They have a pic of a mink on the pan)
I never thought that I was weak, but these things are extremely hard to set. It's all that I can do to get them set. LOL

With you being down there in fox country, we should just trade traps. LOL Yours sound like they'd be perfect for mink.

Got some used them for years on mainly on public land ( safer on bird dogs) good on fox. Now they are leaker then new so they are water traps. Mine are the longliners , i never bought any of the later 1 1/2's. The waterliners i looked at them and didn't like them. I remember when they first came out john couldn't get enough of them fast enough.
Let me sugar coat this

I've had mine for years. 10-12 years, maybe more.
They're the ones you can get at MTP. They're the 1.5 special.
Like BigRed1 said they are a very stout trap to set. Even mine being well used.
I would bet that they would hold a yote. Mine have held an otter that got into a coon set.
I got a pair of Daves setters to set mine. A lot safer then standing in water and setting over the leg.

Yea mine are plenty strong just dont like how the pan sets 1/2" above the jaws. They would make a good mink trap TheBig1. Might have to put a weaker set on springs on em first.

If you think the montana 1.5s are stout...you should try setting the 4 coiled round jawed 2 predator pros. My youngest son heard me filling the night sky with curse words while I tried to do a remake one night. I took the smaller extra set of springs off and they seemed a little weak so I put them back on, and wow are those something fun to wrestle with in a thick pair of gloves. Jim

Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

Jim,did you buy the #2's 4 coiled or put the 4 coil springs on?
I wanted to 4 coil mine but couldn't figure how to get the pan off the spring pin without cutting it off.
I was going to put on JC Conners 4 coil kits. Ended up returning them

I bought 6 of these off trap shed from a great fellow member. I replaced the stock pans with the 6 pit pans and round steel dogs the guy included with the purchase. These are taos style second springs that are one unit not separate springs individually. Held every coyote that set them off, but they are stouts little traps for sure. Jim
