Mine is made so it bolts to a ceiling rafter it 10ft tall with a adjustable vice grip clamps for critters. It made out of 1 1/2 square tube 3/16 wall thickness. I use a cheap harbor freight hand winch for pulling. My friend built one similar and his is free standing. He made a 4 foot square base out of 3 inch c channel. If you got the height make it 11 or 12 foot with mine on big coyote I sit on a chair to finish out the head. The coyote head is about waist level for me and its a really bad angle on my back. J

Most of the grippers on the vice grips that I've seen were pieces of rebar.
