Well, I don't trap coyotes, anymore. In my younger days, I trapped them in central Oregon. I was young, and poor. Used a lot of bailing wire, among other things. Lots of #9 wire, too. It was laying all around certain areas. No idea why, but miles of it all around .
We would wire off to the nearest tree, or log, or big rock, even. Basic #3 Victor dls. was the trap of choice.
Of course we missed a few, but I sure don't remember many demolishing a trap, a tree, or even wire.
Of course that was back on the 70's. Coyotes were probably much smaller, weaker, and dumber, back then.

Just doing what I want now.

Yes, and traps could be just fine-tuned/cleaned/dyed/waxed and used without adding extra baseplating, laminating, swivels, shock springs, etc., etc.

I have used a double strand of baling wire as an extension too. You need to give the Paul Harvey version. (rest of the story) Most of the time the animal will wrap up tight in what ever there is to wrap up in and will still be there. You will also lose some traps. Its a poor idea. Don't do it. #3 victor longspring used stock, no swivels, is what got the coyotes chewing there foot off story being passed around. That single swivel at the trap spring leaves a lot to be desired. So do those sharp edged trap jaws. There is a lot of misinformation out there and a bunch of snakeoil salesmen, but not extending trap chain with baling wire and using swivels is GOOD advice.

Those who would give up essential liberty, to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790)

Thanks Wolfdog! I missed this somehow. I’ve passed up several places because of anchoring issues. Now I can explore other options. And those who think it’s easier to drive an anchor, have never driven an anchor or attempted to pull an anchor through or out of a tree root.
