So last weekend Sunday after our winter storm dumped 7 inches of snow, I set some dogproofs around an old abandoned farm that had fresh tracks coming in and out of the falling down buildings. Figured I'd have something since it was real fresh sign. Then the weather warmed up and all I have had was mice cleaning them out. Decided this morning to take a walk through the field adjacent to it to a low spot about 300 yards away where the wheat stubble and water meet a corn field.

Glad I did because apparently the coon must have decided to quit using the buildings as shelter since it warmed up and melted the snow. Must have went back to staying out in the fields. Lots of tracks running along the water flowing like a spring creek, so I set it heavy.

My biggest challenge half the time is finding a way to set traps so people cant see the trapped animal from a road and steal my catch.

I feel that. I have to pass up a lot of great locations just because it’s in plain view of the county road, and road hunters just LOVE shooting coyotes with their deer rifles. You and I have about the same terrain.

If your coon trapping put them on drags. Take a good size limb tie it half way down. Coons wont go far to the weeds. Plus people all they see is a limb when u dont have a coon. I have used this on Bobcats fox and coyotes too.

Slide into a ditch, behind some brush, or drown em. 160s will put down coon quick too.

Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.
