I cannot remember the guys name but i believe he used to be on here at least. I met him in Washington at a trappers education class. He had a large square block of wood prolly 3'x3' wide nad 18" tall or so. Coming out of it he had a 3" or so diameter pole coming out at a 45 degree angle. (I know you said you wanted to avoid 45 degree but this doesn't flex at all. at the base of the pole he had large nails so he could turn it with his foot while he was fleshing. The pole was pointed just like a fleshing beam just never had a flat spot. It was an odd setup but worked very well for him and he loaded it up in the back of his truck in just a few seconds really. very neat setup. Cant remember the name but he was the president of Washington trappers association at the time i think.

I'm looking to build a portable fleshing beam stand to take to fur handling demos, events and backup fur sheds.
I dont like the beam at 45* angles like some I've seen, I like it more horizontal to save from bending too much. Got some rough ideas in my head but still open to ideas. If you build your beam at bout a 45 degree angle so that the tip reaches to your solar plexus there should be little, if any bending. You flesh to the length of your arms reach, then pull the hide up on your beam to continue fleshing without bending much, if any.

The only constant in trapping is change so keep learning.

2 sets of 2x4 up rights to what ever height you want, hooked to a base long enough to stand on to hold it in place. Beam set on a cross 2x4 between both sets of uprights. 2x4's hook front and back up right together under the beam and at the bottom.
