I picked up cable and ferrules at the convention this year to make Drowner cables, but forgot to pick up locks. What type of DIY locks will work well? I have heard about using fender washers. I know standard swivels will work also, but I don't have any of those either. Also, what size hole is best for 1/8 cable?

Thanks.

Just order what you need from f&t or mtp locks are pretty cheap and you'll get them in a few days. Sorry I dont make my own so not the answer you were looking for but best in my opinion

Life sure is tough when you don't learn from the mistakes of others.

Just use a swivel if you have some

If you have access to a bench vice, just go to your local hardware store and buy 1/2" washers. Drill a 3/16" hole in opposing sides, and bend them over in a 90 degree angle.
Even 1/4" hole is fine.

Just doing what I want now.

Bent washers with holes work awesome. I reused washer locks off of old snares as drowner locks many times. Can also cut a piece of metal pipe small diameter stuff works well. Attach via hole drilled near on end of the pipe section. Low side hole will slide easily down cable or wire, but wont come back up very well and makes a great drowner lock for very cheap.

Thanks guys, I'll dig through the scrap bins here at work and see what I can scrounge up.

Drillpress, power saw, vise, and a hammer are the tools needed to make top quality drowner/slider locks from 1/8" x 3/8" flat steel rod. Drill the holes before you cut the rod to lengths.

Got them made up. Scrounged up a piece if 1/8 by 2 1/4 cold rolled. Drilled the holes, then sawed the pieces apart. Hammered them 90 and voila, locks.
Thanks for the help guys.
