Hi all , so I’m kinda new to this trapping thing so would like some advice on when I should starting beaver in the fall?
Season starts November 1. The thing is I am trying to catch enough beaver to get a blanket made. Going to get fur shears and plucked. Do I need prime beaver pelts if I am going to have them sheared and plucked anyway? Have a lot of good places to trap beaver but a lot of them really only can get to with boat, so need to get them before river ices over.

They need to be prime. They underfur is what is left after the pluck and shear process and it needs to be a certain thickness for the shearing part.

The later the better. The beaver will be there when you get there as long as no one else is trapping them.

Wish I had more time to trap....

Depends if you want a short shear or long shear.Fully prime beaver will have underfur 3\4 inch long and the last place to grow is behind the ears on the neck.
They can do a short shear when the underfur is at 1/2 inch on the neck.
Fully prime beaver where I am will be around December.

Forget that fear of gravity-get a little savagery in your life.

Im going at it right now. Mostly for the fun and they are sweeter to eat this time of year. Atleast that's my humble opinion.

You may think before you act. The question is did you listen to your own council?
