I'm having problems with beaver knocking over my 330's in the runs from lodge to pond and tripping my trap any help on fixing the problem would be appreciated
Also I stake down with sticks through the spring holes
Thanks

Longer sticks and shoving them deeper till there's no give will help.
How deep are these runs and how close to the den are you setting?

Use a trapstand or make a tee pee set for deeper water stabilizing of the 330's. [Linked Image]

Don't put the sticks in the spring holes. They belong up against the hinges. Shove the sticks in on a slight outward angle. Space them just far enough apart so that you have to wedge the trap in from above. The sticks will contact the trap at the hinges.

Carl is correct, let the sticks catch the inside of the upper trap frame. Also fold the springs down so they help stabilize the trap. You can move the trigger to one side, to present a larger open path to start through.
Good luck to you

Carl I put my sticks at the end of the springs not where the hinges are just trying to fill up the run way or trail , trails are deep a little way out but up close they are 1/2 a 330 deep setting a little way back from lodge trying to catch them coming in or going out.
These are not main den openings these are side approaches the main opening is deep
I was thinking they are sliding off bank and hitting trap from side and knocking over just my speculation thanks for all the help but I like the H stand

Find more sticks to close the channel. Beavers leave them around everywhere. I properly set 330 (as described above) won't be knocked over by a man stumbling into it without getting caught.
H stands are nice, but they are something else to carry with you. Sticks are everywhere.

Hogg Trapper, I just finished trapping a lodge with same sets on each side. I used H stand, put stick between springs angled out and tied off on 5' cable to a stake away from trap. Trap is on bottom. And diving sticks across top. Caught the small beaver there. The two adults were caught in drowning set at Mud trail going up lodge. MB550 in 12" depth with a bit of castor lure on both sides of trail w mud and seaweed piled in center. Both hind foot catches.

I know this about 330's but have you considered a few snares? If there are slides they could be a light weight option to fill some of the gaps.

I know that most still use conibears as I did for 40 plus years until switching to swim through cage traps. They never get moved and are rarely sprung as the trigger is recessed deeply into the trap, while the trigger travel is several more inches before the trap fires. Have taken nearly 1300 beaver in them in nine years with no plans to go back to what I did before.

I use to use strictly conibears and I have switched completely to drowning rods with #5 Bridgers and have been very happy with my results

get some h stands and set your 330 as close to the entrance as you can .sounds like an educated beaver .if that dont work set leg holds in the runs .good luck i have even tried building a large colony trap and had them move it out of the runs,i would like to know how they did that.

at blind sets on slides YOU make
some with lure and others without.

Also, you could stack 2 330's.

I would like to hear more about this experience if you don’t mind sharing. What was the trap made out of, horse panel like the other beaver colony traps that have been posted on here?

Without learning more, I would presume they saw it as something blocking “their” run, and they decided to simply swim around it and lifted/rolled it out of the way, but I definitely want to hear more. I’ve been wanting to build some beaver colony traps to try
