I started trapping beaver last year and I love it. My question is there certain times of the year to use castor lure. Never used it and didn't no if it would in the fall and winter. Thanks for the advice in advance.

I use it in fall, winter and spring. If you see active castor mounds, it's a go.

Up North here it even works in the summer.

I'm just happy to be here! Today I'm as young as I'll ever be and and older than I've ever been before!

Are Castor mounds alwaysbuilt in the open or can they be obscured? Asking in terms of beaver logic .

You may think before you act. The question is did you listen to your own council?

There is a trick to using it in winter for beaver.

Forget that fear of gravity-get a little savagery in your life.

If you are only setting a couple houses while trapping marten in winter, and want to check the next day or two before the ice gets thick, set an entrance or two with a few traps then take a stick and dip it in castor lure and shove it a little ways down the vent hole.It agitates the beaver and gets them going in and out of the house more.

Thanks for sharing. Every once in a while something totally new pops up as a good idea. That is totally new to me.
Thanks

Not really new.Learned that from the old cree trappers many years ago. They used to net and snare beaver at the entrances and feed holes in winter and that was one method they used.Nets and snares back in the day were made of sinew or cordage.
That is just one trick of many I learned that are likely not widely known outside certain circles. They have many uses for the beaver "weedoo".
