Man, I think I need to switch to chai drowners or rebar.
This was a 12' x 3/32 cable before we hooked up to the big beaver on Sunday.
Pics of people's set up would be appreciated. Especially chains and locks or rod ends/anchors

1/8 " locks up better . Often curly que cable is from the cable getting loose and the lock slipping back up the loose cable .

I started with wire, then cable on to re bar , Now Chain and feed sack filled on site. Or more times than not 10' fiberglass drowner rods. Re rod is great, just heavy.

10 foot fiberglass rods set up for double staking at waterline or just below.

Hand cut chain drowner lock cut from conduit with hole drilled for Trap chain. Bottom of chain stop is adjustable with snap on link at depth needed ... weight is whatever you choose. I like feed sacs with rock/ sand filled on site.

Top of chain is two s hooks closed just right to allow for two re rod stakes.

I have that same toolbox. Lol

You must not have had your cable staked solid at the deep end,either that or the cable was loose when staked.
I guess all that heavy steel stuff works ok if you trap right beside the road.

It helps with cable to put a stop 12-18" from the deep end anchor

If you can use the rods IMO they are by far the best choice, however they aren't practical for everyone's line.

Here's an adjustable drowner cable that you can pull the tag end through the lock to stretch it tight so it doesn't kink so bad...

I see. I am thinking rods would be ideal where near road and chains where I have a hike.
Nothing remote here like on Bocos line lol worst case would be a 300 yard drag to the truck.
There aren't usually huts or dams here, just bank dens so a good peeled stick can be hard to find.
Now if black dirt and soybean Duff we're useful for beaver sets, I'd be all set.

Where do the fiberglass rods come from?

I bought mine from Mike Kelly on Here. Then I sprayed them red/brown/black. Very Nice SetUp
