I have an abundance of crappie fillets in the freezer so I'm trying this...

Im going to watch this later on.

I wish I had the old man's recipe... he pickled some suckers once and they tasted better than pickled herring.

like his salting technique, I'm going to try it.
The only exception to his method; tilapia, yuk, especially Walmart tilapia, double yuk.

Well today starts 5 days of the salt/vinegar soak on my gallon jar of crappie fillets. Wish me luck.

Might be bit different portions of things but that is pretty much how I do mine. For sure is same way I brine mine. Usually do Northern but suckers work well too.

This is a video I made of how I make pickled fish. There are probably a jillion recipes out there, but once you do it a couple times it's easy to dial in how you like to make it.


Pickled Redhorse

Final step, now just a couple days wait while it soaks up the goodness. From the smell of it already, I think I'm going to love it.

Its really good but a bit on the tangy side. I think if you would increase the sugar by one cup it would be perfect. Good stuff though.

I had done some redhorse and came out better then I thought it would . it is on the sweet pickle side use a mix with onions. I found the recipe on the internet and also from the state DNR fishing book I got many years ago.

Easier to remember too, 8 and 8. lol

Looks awesome, hardest part of that recipe must be the wait.

After its done you still need to store in frig don't you?

Yes sir the wait is the tough part. I think it needs refrigerated, that is where I'll store it.
