Ive only caught two otters before, but I've always just used mink glands and fishoil mixed together. Seems to make them investigate, just set extra traps as mink find them to. Its how i got a mink double.

Let me sugar coat this

No need for lure with otter - find the run they are traveling and gang set it with bodygrips. Even if you don't see sign, if there is a creek or drainage connecting two bodies of water the otter will be there. Catch a bunch every season in small ditches and farm pond outflows.

Good advice Anthony, But chrissk, you MUST tune the 220 or 280 triggers so they trip with minimal slop/movement.

traprjohn is spot on about tuning the triggers. I have a couple hundred big bodygrips and they all get set and checked for excessive trigger slop before each season. You want the otter hit in the neck right behind the ears or across the chest for a quick dispatch. Also, make sure you anchor them well, I use an extension cable to anchor to a tree if possible. If no tree is close I use a 24" T-Bar.

The most otter I caught in a season were caught mainly in 330's using fish oil and crawfish oil placed to where the otter would swim into the sets while trying to find the source of the smell. It was when otters were over 100$ making extra effort profitable. Bottom edge type sets were ideal when set correctly. I caught about 54 more otter that year than the previous year not using lure.

Can u explain on working the trigger over? Use a file fix so they will go off easy? I have some new 280s and 330s I need to check. I bought some fox hollow and caven otter lure.

Lenons Otter All Call. I’ve had great success using it with footholds along creek banks
