Would #11 double jaw Sleepy Creek suffice for fox? I am trapping a small farm near some pretty urbanized area. Lots of fox and very slim chance at Coyote. Also a decent possibility of a roaming pet dog or two. I've got some dedicated coyote traps, mb 550s,650s, Bridger #3s. But I'm thinking they are more trap than I want for the situation.

I have a few 1 1/2 coils but they are not center swiveled thus are not legal for ground sets in MT. So I was thinking my arsenal of #11s might fit the bill for the situation. Any thoughts?

I would think #11 would hold a fox just fine. small target area for print but any one i have ever owned has had all the holding power in the world. Stake it right and be good.

Good to hear. I was figuring that if they can hold 20+ pound coons they should be sufficient for a 10 pound red fox. I don't expect to catch any roaming dogs, but if it happens, I would think the #11 would be pretty gentle on it.

In open spots I use sliders with the #11's I put a stop about 2 feet from the end of the slider to stop the critter from getting a direct pull on the stake. Usually find the critter sleeping..

Those little traps are like bulldogs, they don't let go!I think they'll work just fine.

Thanks for the input guys. Moreso, it re-affirms what I suspected. Not necessarily the ideal fox trap, but they will serve the purpose just fine.

The 11 is a tenacious holder. I've held about everything in them too and they work well for fox.

Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

They hold ridiculously well. But getting a live pet out of one might be difficult. If you’ve got the time, you could get some Center swiveling attachments or just apply cable to the trap bottom and hook on with a j-hook and swivel— on your 1 1/2 coils. I’ve found domestic pet removal much easier with coils vs longsprings.

NEVER under estimate the stupidity of people. And their pets. Three weeks ago, I set field edge that was almost half a mile from the closest home. I’ve taken several fox, skunks and a buddy routinely takes coyotes out of the area. Anyway, I got a call from the farmer-owner that Somebody had gotten the neighbor’s dog and he thought it might be my trap.

I sweated the 5 mile drive because I didn’t know his neighbor. When she stopped at his house, she was all apologetic, saying it was a naughty dog , and yada, yada, yada. But she told us she and the dog walk the area a lot. The farmer had NO idea anyone was ever on the property. The farmer’s family, the other trapper and I are the only people who have permission to be there!!!

In the end, it turned out it was her daughter’s dog which had been allowed to run when it got out of the car. The woman said it was a good lesson for her daughter about controlling her pet. Stupid is as stupid does, I guess. I wish she would not walk fields where she doesn’t have permission but I have a feeling this behavior isn’t going to change.
