I'm trapping coyote/fox in a cattle pasture. Anyway, about 100 yards from pond there is what looks like a muskrat house in very swallow water where water runs off. Probably just inches of water. Not much of a muskrat trapper but would they build a house away from a pond like that?

I've seen muskrat huts built on dry ground with the nearest water a few feet away in the monsoon we had last year.

I wonder why some rats live in huts and others in bank dens. I rarely see huts around here, no matter where I go.
