I am going for a week of hunting and trapping next week and I will be setting out some snaring poles for squirrels to eat and use scraps in a bait pile among other carcasses. We are overrun with squirrels and I want to put the fur up on them but I haven't ever case skinned a squirrel and boarded it. Plan on using some pine pallet wood to make board stretchers. I usually cut behind the tail and pull the skin off to eat them, not a finish style skinning method. what would be the best way for skinning / putting up the fur?

I skin them like anything else if im going to sell the fur. made stretchers out of lath. same with the belly boards. pull the bone out of the tail and split it. a lot of work for 50 cents or whatever. give mepps a call. they will buy tails bone in or trade for spinners.

I didn't know we could sell squirrel... but I do know that you can sell their tails!

Just do what Dan said - especially after you've gathered a good amount of 'em!

Check with the fly tying people. I have a guy who pays $1/tail all I can give him.

I skin them the same as mink, and stretch them on female mink boards. It won't make you rich but if you are putting up other fur it is not much effort to put them up too.

If you board squirrels on a female mink board, you either have the smallest mink in the country, or the biggest squirrels ever!

Just doing what I want now.

Female mink board here for red squirrels.
Some years we catch quite a few,but not like the trappers out west, they catch thousands some times.
I sell for 8 dollars each tanned. They are very easy to tan with several methods. [Linked Image]
