Those of you that use the Rustoleum/Acetone dip, is it best to use the primer or paint? I’ve seen both discussed on forums/YouTube. Also, I’ve read that the 50/50 can be too thick and can require scraping of the trigger/dog. Are there other concentrations that work better?

I have dipped in the 50/50 rusty primer mix, but it didn’t seem to be the most durable so I top coated with some black spray paint, then dipped in zepps. this was on a mixture of mb550, dukes, victors and Bridgers. I scraped every trigger and fired every trap prior to season. It was a great and fairly durable coat, but I had no luck using those traps in the pipe dream sets for canines. All the off targets didn’t mind tho. And I did catch coyotes using those traps if they were buried in a dirthole set. I pulled, pressure washed then waxed all those painted traps and within 3 days was catching coyotes.

Yeah I’ve heard some people don’t like it for canines. I’m really just looking for feedback on using the rustoleum primer vs the paint (I believe they have both products) and what ratios of paint/acetone are being used with acceptable coverage without bogging down trap components. Glad to see you were able to get back to what worked for you.

I've dipped before works fine just let them air out well 65% 35% was my ratio, wore well I dipped my in June so they had 5 months to air out,i don't know if you need to air out that long, but that's the time frame I've always done it.

I did 1 qt rusty metal primer, 1 qt flat black, and 3 qts acetone on my rat traps. This is the first season and so far it’s holding up but rats aren’t as hard on traps as other critters. So to your question I mixed and used both.

I also use a combo of primer, paint and acetone, but am sure just paint and acetone would work fine.
I use a ratio of approximately a gallon of paint to 1-1/2 gallons of acetone.
Personally, I prefer doing the dipping in summer, and let the traps air out until trapping season.

Just doing what I want now.

Anybody use the bare metal paint on new traps vs waiting for them to rust a bit and then using the rusty metal product?

not rusting first here
60-40........Acetone-paint or primer, whatever is on sale
I found it thickens as it evaporates when using so try and compensate
