So far I have caught 3 coon. They are skinned. I don’t have stretchers yet, but am going to order them. Will I be ok freezing the pelts and then thawing, fleshing, and stretching?

Yes, although I would normally flesh before freezing. It works either way.

Wish I had more time to trap....

I have mixed feelings on the fleshing before freezing. Sometimes I they dry out a little if I flesh them first. Buts im also not as motivated to flesh them right after I freeze them haha

If traps work like the Antis say......I would have no fingers.

When freezing fleshed or unfleshed pelts roll them up fur out from the butt to head, with the tail tucked into the roll. Then place into a plastic garbage bag and remove as much air as possible. Rolled this way the head will be on the outside and the pelt can be easily hooked up on a rafter nail or whatever for naturally unrolling when thawing.

The only constant in trapping is change so keep learning.

If you are storing them long term - several months or longer - do not flesh before freezing. When you thaw and flesh them, you will be fleshing away the layer of fat that has started to turn yellow.

If it is short term storage (a few days - a couple of weeks) fleshing before freezing first should be ok.
