Lures are my bread and butter for rats. Find their feed bed and set right on or by. There will be a feed bed. If you can blind set a colony and add a guiding fence that will get em good. I have found carol syrup and anise to be a good poor mans lure.

I've caught a fair amount of rats this year on beaver lure. Castor based.

That's one thing I cant find. All rocky banks on the creek. . I was just setting the bank. Where creek runs into river. The creek runs under the road. I was setting right where it goes under road. They have to come right by my traps. I need to set the sides for mink too.

I have cavens bread and butter in my bag. It seems to help when other sets have failed.

I work with the same circumstances. Rocky banks. Artificially built up. But they do have a feed bed. Of that a assure you. Its not flashy like what the marsh rats will build. Mostly will be a nonchalant collection of sticks with a mat plant matter caught up around it if I remember ill post some pics. Set near or on that with deep water and you will have a drowned rat.

I fount place looks like small beaver chewing in about 6 inchs of water. I been setting the rocks where a rat can come on bank. I been placing my cut apple in back. Place my trap in front. Lure in back. Catching them that way. Also the logs out of water. I place my trap on the log under water catching them. Cant set out in open. Someone would steal my trap. Or just throw it.

Too many beaver here to even think about using a castor based lure for rats. In fact, it's part of the reason I often skip luring rat sets that could possibly benefit from it. I like my rat traps to catch small rodents, cause the big ones tend to take the trap to parts unknown.

Right now I’m having amnesia and déjà vu at the same time. I think I’ve forgotten this before.

Just remember, Rat lures are also coon lures. Stake appropriately or don't use them.

I quit using rat lure and my catch hasn't gone down one bit....but to each his own.

Good luck.
