Late 90’s. Last year had to swap an engine-bad crank seal and no tools/parts at camp to fix. Spare engine had a reverse stator so I swapped those out . Got it lined up on the mark but seems that the timing is still off. A lot more power and runs stronger but occasional backfire when starting. Is it too far advanced, or retarded ? Also fuel economy went way down. Is this why?

Pops through the exhaust. Only when engine is warm. I know I’m gonna have to adjust it-just trying to get an idea which way because it’s a pain and I don’t wanna do it twice

The 97 was a better machine.

Ok so you used the Rer engine but installed the ignition components from the older engine that fid not have rer?

My 96 Tundra will do that once in a while when the weather is warm. It is all original. I find that if I hold the throttle open just a hair it will fire up without the backfire

The occasional backfire I don’t mind. But the terrible fuel economy is no good. Will probably put the old engine (now fixed) back in .

How bad was the MPG ??

Its been a while but if I remember right the older ignition system needs more timing advance then the later Ducati Rer.
Wish i had a crankcase to confirm.

Counter clockwise will advance the timing.

I have a complete spare stator for a 1997 tundra (bought it used from ebay)....it won't fit my 1999.... I understand they scoured different parts from different companies various years..love my machine but love my Bravo too...
