I turn 62 in May.
Well versed in all forms of remodeling and construction.
Am I too old for the job market in Alaska?
Currently live in N.E. montana where it gets -40-, -50..
Isolation.is my norm.
Not looking for a fortune.
What say you

What are your skills?
Temperature isn't really of much consideration imo; heck, there's even a bunch of Texans working in Alaska. Shouldn't take much to beat them for toughness, especially when it comes to climate issues:-)

If you are in decent physical shape I doubt you will have any problems finding work.

You are still a whipper-snapper, if you think you are.
Only you can say, "I'm done".

Just doing what I want now.

That is the attitude. Only you can quit. I know, (and get to run), with a 74 year old man that has beaten cancer twice! He can still work his rearend off, trap me under his boot tracks, still have time for ALL his friends, pulls king crab pots by himself, and the list goes on.
All I can figure two things: 1: He is darn-near in-destructible, and 2: I am incredibly lucky to know him.
Be like him.

If you are used to dealing with -40, -50 you shouldn't have any problem with the weather in Alaska. What bothers most people in my opinion is the lack of daylight, not the weather. It's been my observation that typically people that find productive things to do IN THE WINTER typically handle the cold, dark winters and cabin fever better than the people who just become couch potatoes and try to ride the winter out indoors. Me, I try to go ice fishing, trapping, predator hunting, small game hunting etc. So I actually enjoy the winter season. But many people leave due to the cold, dark winters. But age shouldn't be a factor in my opinion. And carpenters can find work in Alaska for sure. Especially in the Anchorage and Matanuska Valley areas. Plenty of new and remodel construction going on. I've never had to look very long for construction work. Just show up with a tool bag and you'll get put to work right away.
