How much of a problem is mange in your area? About 25% of my coyote catches in the last two years have mange.

When i was still in Southeastern Montana I caught 62 coyotes in basically a month I sold 2 that didn't have any signs of scarcoptic mange . I'm good friends with a guy who still traps and snares coyotes not far from there and coyote numbers were down and suffering from mange was even lower.
I agree with Red coyote numbers need to be kept at a reasonable number for the area your trapping or snaring in to help keep mange from spreading . I enjoy watching a healthy coyote doing what coyotes do as long as they leave livestock alone.

You're friend along the snare line .

We have it bad here. Some years I’ll run over 50%. A few years ago I had between 30-40 in my mange pile. Terrible affliction to say the least.

It is running about 50% here overall. It tends to differ from location to location.

I can't believe that cop put me in the back seat when I clearly called shotgun.

The longer (years) you keep after em the better the mange problem will be. I have one area ive been hammering every year for awhile. There are fewer coyotes, but the ones that are harvested are skinners, with just the occasional mangy one. It was a mess when I started, half and half. The change didnt happen overnight either, it took some whittling.

Does mange often kill them pretty fast or are they quite resiliant? I've heard some yotes can overcome it.

I suppose they bring it to their den and spread it fast that way.
