I’m looking for information on used bench swagers. From the experience of bench swager users, do you think a used one would be worthwhile or should I bite the bullet and get a new one?

I want to build a hundred or so disposable stakes and pounding the ferrules disrupts my wife’s activities. Noise is an issue at our house.

I bought a hand swager from Home Depot for about $25.00. It works great for me, though I only use it for disposable anchors. If I was making snares, or had to use it for more projects, the bench mounted one would be better.

You can clamp a hand swagger in a bench vice. Much easier to use, and much cheaper than a bench swagger.

Just doing what I want now.

I bought an inexpensive had swagger and converted it to a bench model. Using a hand one is time consuming but still gets the job done. Doing like alaska viking suggests will work for the amount your doing too.

I’m looking for a used bench mount. Nothing from the trap shed so far. If anybody has given up on trapping and wants to sell their bench swager, I’m in the market for one.

Buy new unless someone is getting out of trapping finding a used one that isn't worn out is gonna be tuff , they do get sloppy over time.

These work just fine. Probably not going to find a used one shipped to you much cheaper. Shipping will be $20 or more unless they are right next door.

I broke down and bought one well over 10 years ago, and i would not with out it now. I use to sell some snares and earth anchors plus all the stuff I've made for my own use. And pretty sure it will out last me.

Let me sugar coat this

Nobody has a used one for sale so I’m having my own Black Friday tomorrow. Thanks for your input. Strictly Trapping is a valuable source of information.

I bought decent a good set of hand swaggers and converted them to a bench by fixing a piece of pipe vertically on the end of the work table, notching it to accept the handle and dropping the swaggers down in. It works just fine but is goofy because of the way the jaws rotate when open with one handle firmly affixed. You almost need another hand to get everything lined up before rotating for the compression stroke. If I had to do it over I'd just buy the bench model.

Made 4 dozen standard berkshire disposables in a couple hours on Tuesday. Started making heavy duty berks last night. There are times I don’t like driving 24-inch metal stakes (noise of pounding ) so a disposable is preferable. Also, weight is a big factor when I have to walk any distance. Admittedly I’m old. Bench staging isn’t as hard on me.
