Trying something new this year. I got tired of all the frayed ends poking me on snares, cable extensions and the like so I decided to try and tin the ends with some silver solder. We use a lot of cable grip hoist at work and this is one of the ways they finish the ends on those so I figured it was worth a shot. It also seems that it will give the ferrules and cable ends a little more holding power in the event that they slip. Has any body else tried this? Doesn't add to much time in the building phase and may be well worth it. Once i cut all my snares to length i heated some solder in an old spoon with the propane torch, dipped the cable in the flux, then dipped the cable in the solder just long enough to bind the strands but not so long that it make a big ball on the end, then I assembled the snares. Heres to hoping it was worth the extra effort. [Linked Image]

Great ideas. I have seen a few snares that people have welded the cable ends also.
