I got a 84 Bravo (I think it;s a 84) and am having a hard time figuring out what is wrong with it, It fires up, idles fine, give it gas and it bogs out. Rev it a few times and it will catch and go but it will bog down then go again. I messed around with the carb adjustment and sometimes it runs great and then goes right back to doing the same thing. Any suggestions?

Clean the carburetor. Sounds like it’s got some debris in it.

I would start with taking off the float bowl, check for cleanness and make sure the float and valve are working smoothly.

Yep clean the carb. I use Suzuki carb cleaner and it will clean them right up. A guy just gave me an 86 Bravo. Its been used very little and has sat for so long Im going to just put a carb kit in it.

The date of manufacture will be on a decal on the tunnel.

Have about 5 old Bravos tubs out in the yard. My son still runs one. Sounds like you got some jet blockage from water or dirt and fuel doesn't like to rise in the jet tube from the bowl. If it's idling okay the fuel must be getting through the main fuel/float valve. If you're not good with carb taking apart just find another one but first try the fuel bowl drain or better, take off and clean out.
Picture is of my son's Bravo 2 days ago. Steering snapped while a ways out of town on trapline and no control over either ski or steering. He had to rig up the poles to get home - long one on side was for steering.

Love that steering setup Stan, now I know what to do if the steering gives out on my Bravo!

HFT - you might also check those rubber boots near the carb. My 88 Bravo had bogging issues that turned out to be a crack in the boot that was leaking air. Replaced it and runs like a champ now.
Good luck!

I did that same thing on my first machine.....an old Olympique I had steering on one ski but not the other. Just had to watch out for stobs in the snow

Wish I had your snow Stan. Its ridiculous here, rain and above zero temps. The steering column was always the weak point on those Bravos. I used to take the steering column out, then push a solid steel rod up inside it and plug weld it in place. Never broke one after that. Guess I need to do that on the one I was just given.

The above is my first guess. The carb can get carb ice in the throat if it is warm and misty. Ice will close down the throat and not enough air to run above idle will be available.

My old Supertrack gave me bogging issues one year. Would run great one day and bog on and off the next. It wasn't the boots, it turned out to be a piece of tundra debris in one of the jets, a tundra needle or something. My guess is the end of it would sometimes stand up and normal fuel would get by and it would run right. Other days I guess it would fold over the jet and cause it to bog.

I'm sure you'll get'er right John. Start with what you can see before getting the tools out; carb boots, cable movement in the throttle and choke, then start removing stuff, checking that everything moves the way it should as you go. Eventually you'll find it, or get the carb off and take it apart and clean it and hopefully it'll run right.

Be safe out there!

Rumors of my assimilation have been greatly exaggerated.

I appreciate all the advice guys!
Tore apart the carb today and sprayed it down pretty good. The boots were good. There was a little water in the bowl. Put it all back together and was like what the heck! It still idled high and bogged down when I gave it gas.
So I tried to adjust the throttle and the screw just spinned, turns out it must have backed out of the plunger. Got that fixed and after a few adjustments she is running like a champ now!
Again I appreciate all the advice!

Good to hear! I took mine into the Yammy dealer in town with plans to have them replace all the fuel lines and pull the carb and put new guts in it. I am so busy I just dont have time. Turns out they dont work on anything over 20-years old! They hummed and hawed a bit then told me they would do it but it was going to cost me $700 minimum! Bought the parts and brought it home, I will make time for that kind of money..
