So my boys trapped a bunch coon, I dont have a freezer at home, so i left a half dozen hang in the barn for a few days before i took to my brothers, under freezing temps, but now they feel thick and heavy, i assume that what they mean when they say the fat has melted? They definatley are not rotten or tainted, they dont smell. Planned on selling to Grony, Is this gonna be an issue? i'm just disappointed i made a mistake and my young boys(7,9) may pay the price, not that they are worth any thing anyway. But its principle they did the work. Thanks in advance.

Whole animals or skins?
Sounds like the fat has stiffened up,not melted.
They will scrape easier and cleaner when the fat has stiffened up.

Forget that fear of gravity-get a little savagery in your life.

Yup, the fat hardened. That is the best way to scrape coon. Scrape them and get a little more money! (If you have the equipment).

When life gets me down..... you know hunting/trapping season is closed.

That is whats supposed to happen. You'll be fine.

One thing I do if I have to hang Coons to thaw or dry fur is hang from nail through ear hole and fold the face inside, if that makes sense........ it helps keep the face from drying out. I fold the face inside when freezing too for the same reason.

Love to hear the young guys are doing so well!

Trapset, thats a great tip. Never thought of that. I hate it when the heads dry out if theyre in the freezer too long. Makes boarding them a pain.
