He has been tagging along with me on the lines since he was 3 last year he had his own little line that he caught sonme fox and got a lucky wolverine catch in a fox snare. He is anxiously waiting to be able to access "his" line but we need snow and a little ice. so for now we are running a few traps off the road and have been catching a few critters sure enjoy getting him out. The big objective this year is teaching him to skin and stretch on his own he is 9 now so can handle a knife and understand it can cut him too. Here are a few pictures from this year so far 4 otter and 2 marten since the 10th not to bad for only 8 traps out

Awesome. Are you in DLG? You have marten right up the road? That is the road north to Aleknigik? Must be some competition for that area? Lucky kid to have a grampa like you.

Paper clips to spread the tail! Nice! If my oldest will get his act together about cleaning up after himself me might get to go trapping.

Rumors of my assimilation have been greatly exaggerated.

Very nice! I noticed in pic #5 his concentration, it appears, on what will be the product.
Oh, I won’t steal the paper clip idea. I am sold on the tacked screen for marten put up. Neat to see a different way though.

steal away guys. I have considered the screen thing but paper clips are so cheap fast and easy so I stick with it. AV they work even better on mink tails than marten

I am thinking the paperclip idea works on just about any tail to get it open correctly and drying. I am going to give it a try as well. Save on pins and i think it will look cleaner.
