Always amazes me that coon will walk through a trap on there trail instead of around it. This has no pinch points and bald field but its where they walk.

Coon have one track minds at time and won't be distracted from where they are going. You can catch alot of coon in wide open trails with bare bodygrips, snares or footholds just laid on top of the ground. One reason people don't realize how many coon they miss with DPs in trails.

In most cases you don't even have to brush In the trap. In fact some times It's a deterrent because It's not looking natural.

When I make trail sets with footholds, I don't bed or cover the trap at all. I just pull back any grass and set it on the bare ground to keep it from getting clogged up with grass and put a couple crossing sticks over it a la Dustin Drews youtube videos. Works well.

I use a lot of footholds in coon trails. No less than 2 traps per trail. You would be surprised at what other critters walk them trails. I have caught mink, red and grey fox, coyote, skunk, possum, and bobcat. Animals hug trails for sure.

If your BG Isn't at least 5" off the ground your going to miss lots of coon,. And the other thing you need to do Is stuff some debris under that trap to close off that open area. You want that coon to lift It's head when It approaches the trap.
