Do you guys board them fur in or fur out. It’s my first time boarding anything before this I always open skinned everything because I didn’t know better.

Fur in for a while to jump start the drying process. I like to leave them fur in "over night" outside where they will freeze and slow the drying process. But it can be done indoors, above freezing, if you watch them closely and turn before they dry too much.

Then, while still flexible enough to turn without tearing, turn fur out.

Fur out is how you will market them...

Turn them by pushing the nose down towards the rump, once you get it going a ways continue pushing it through with a broom handle or something similar. You will have problems if you start turning from the rump, and more likely to tear it.

If it gets to dry wrap the pelt with a damp towel to rehydrate it , I start at the head folding it inside it's self .

here's a great video that explains it in detail, you'll also find other critters in their library

I board them in the evening, and flip in the morning. Some are a little too dry. Rather than rip them, spray them with a spray bottle ad have a cup of coffee and go back and they turn just fine. If you have to stick in something to push them through its too dry. Might tear them. spray instead.

Remember to cut the legs short, and leave the front stubs inside, so they don't rip the pelt during drumming.

If you are keeping them or gifting them you don't need to turn them. If you decide you want to put them fur out and are drying in a heated room check them after a few hours depending on temperature and air circulation. Once you've put up a few you'll have a better idea how long before turning based on your drying conditions.

Take your time turning them. No need to rush. Looking at your well put ut fur is almost as satisfying as catching them. Almost!!!

Nice bunch of fox.

I do same as Yukon Jeff,if they are too dry-spray with water bottle. This will soften them up so there is much less risk of tearing especially in the thin skin bellies armpits etc.
I use a couple of keys on the skins when put back on the stretcher fur out after spraying. One in the belly and one or two in the back. This really helps on wolves and cats,to keep pelts from sticking tight to the board. It also helps in drying as it creates a space between the board and skin, where you can fan some air.

If they get to dry I prefer to wrap in a damp towel like "Allen Minear" suggest for 10 minutes or so. I believe you get a more uniform rehydration than by spraying.

The only constant in trapping is change so keep learning.

If overdry and not froze (warm) I stick them in the snowpile
