The original topic was Sunday hunting. My neighbor has already told me he will be posting his land because he doesn't want bothered by folks for written permission. I suspect this will happen alot, and alot will be farmers. Ironically it was the Farm Bureau that pushed for this requirement. For you folks that are unaware of how this new law will work, you can hunt private land with verbal permission Monday to Saturday, but will be required to have written permission on you to hunt the same land on Sunday.
As for the Saturday opener, I'm not opposed...yet. I've heard it's more or less an experiment. And could be changed back if the desired results don't turn out as planned. So it's a wait and see.
Back to the 3 Sunday's... For all you folks hoping the one rifle Sunday will be the first sunday after the Saturday opener, I'll say now it won't be. Because only antlered deer is in then. Their intended goal is to harvest deer, so.. It will be the 2nd Sunday, after antlerless comes in.

I used to enjoy slowly walking and jumping up a buck. Sometimes you have just seconds to identifiy that its a buck and get a clean shot. Antler restrictions put an end to that. Try to do that and count points. I used to ask farmers for written permission to trap and 3/4 of them would tell me " go ahead and trap but i aint signin' nothing". I sure wont be setting 50 to 10 traps on monday to set them all off on saturday and reset them all on monday again. You really think it is worth all that just to hunt 3 sundays a year? Whats keeping hunting numbers down are more and more regulations and getting trated like you might be a criminal. You have to have permission from landowners now so if and when they give you permission all they have to say is "but no sunday hunting". The law should have been now sunday hunting is permitted. No red tape. Im sure not going to ask/bother a land owner to sign a paper to hunt maybe one extra day.

No Sunday hunting is ridiculous. Here in WI, the gun opener is always the Saturday before thanksgiving and goes 9 straight days. Closes At dark on the Sunday day after thanksgiving. That's what I've always know and it works just fine.

Our area looks like a dandelion field with fresh posted signs, gets worse every year. Can’t imagine asking to hunt on Sunday.

as he compared the crossbow debate to this. Stay positive,if you are against Sunday hunting,don't go,but for the people that see
it as a way to truly advance what we love-welcome the prospect of more time.Sunday hunting for me would be great on the public
land I hunt,to take my two grandaughters-getting them off the couch with their phones.

The Game Comm. Has a tuff job trying to get people hunting. "Opportunities" can be defined in several ways when it comes to hunting.
Is it available days or places to hunt?

Not much sense having the days if no where to hunt, and visa-versa.

That's what they said when the allowed crossbows in archery season for even those who are perfectly capable of drawing a compound or tradition bow. They claim more opportunity for all ....everybody had the same opportunity before. They caved to those who wanted an easier way when the saw the increase in license sales. One more example of the "Everybody gets a trophy" society we have become.

There are 4.2 million acres of public land in PA.

There are between 800,000 to 1 million licenses sold.

It is disingenuous to say there is nowhere to hunt.

If you have trespassers that didnt get your verbal permission what makes you think requiring written permission would change that. You need permission now just not written.

That doesnt answer why written is any better than verbal. Permission is permission. Trespassers will trespass either way

how bout Friday before rifle huntin,son just brought home a nice ny doe..love livin on the line.he was checking his stand in ny to sit in the morning and let the pa,ers chase deer to him.

NC passed sunday hunting just a few years ago and gradually decreased restrictions. My memory isnt the best but I believe ,At first it was strictly archery hunting private. That's led to public land firearm hunting on sunday and they're about to allow migratory birds to be harvested on sunday as well.

This is the first year my county requires written permission for hunting . Seems like a inconvenience but hasnt been a deal breaker . I definately saw the need locally due to our population spike.
Most see getting written permission as a pain but I use it to my advantage. A few days before Christmas I'll take a small present or card by the landowners house. Thank them, chat for a while and get the upcoming years permission slip signed. That small gesture can open alot of doors.

I see our gov. Signed the purple paint law, where as land owners don't need posters anymore, just some purple on trees to indicate their land is posted.
It doesn't take affect until after this hunting season. (60 days)
