1 obstacle to overcome seems to be trying to avoid getting a head cold. No fun to be sniffling, congested, with a runny nose.

Stay hydrated, warm, dry, and try not to over do it to much. A worn out body causes a worn out immune system witch doesn’t help out.

Good advice. 1 of the hardest things is to avoid getting sweated up.

Wear clothes that breathe and dress in layers. I've gotten real fond of layering a few light wool sweaters and removing them as necessary to stay just warm enough to not sweat.

I've bought most of mine second hand.

The only one I've bought new is from Duluth Trading. It is fairly heavy, but is my go to sweater when its 0 or lower.

I've used military surplus wool stuff for years but I switched over to first lite brand merino wool base layers and a few outer layers a few yrs ago. I don't know what it is but merino wool is 100 times better than the old green wool military stuff. There are some off brand merino wool layers out there but make sure it's atleast 80% merino wool and I doubt you will be disappointed.

Another trick I use to keep the hands warm is a pair of adhesive toe warmers stuck to the top on the inside of some deerskin mittens. Combine that with a thin wool liner glove. You drop the mitts when you need some dexterity and when the fingers get cold you throw on the mitts and they're toasty warm.

Cold is 1 thing, but wind can be a real beast. Yesterday we had a snow squal. It was nasty.
