So I was thinking about a property that I have permission on and it has a 4wheeler road running along the edge of a field there is a line of trees separating that field from another one and right where the road goes through it has a cattle guard so my question is would a coyote or fax or other animal cross it because if so I think it will be a fynamite location thanks.

My dog would cross cattle guards don't see why a coyote or fox wouldn't . Or they will just duck under the fence at either side of the guard and then continue down the trail.

When snow is on,I see where they go through the fence on either side.I have also seen where a wolf slid on his belly to get under the fence, rather than jump the cattle guard.I have watched coyotes trot through a barbed wire fence and they flow throw like there is no fence there,I have yet to see where one jumped a cattle guard. The 2 track may still be an attraction though.

In this neck of the woods they roll through the fence no issues. I haven't personally seen any tracks going through cattle guards. But the fences here are just barbed wire mostly. Open door for yotes.

In my country cattle guards are great! In the snow you can see where it causes them to stall before picking a side to cross under the fence. Gives them ample opportunity to smell your bait or lure.

Ive caught a lot around autogates also, seems like theres always a perfect path to set a snare on the sides.

How far back from the cattle guard are you guys seeing them take the fence typically?

Most of our "properly installed" cattle guards are built up higher then the road like a terrace. The wire coming off them will have a taller gap between cattle guard post and 1st fence post. Perfect for snares also.

Check the fence on either side of a cattle guard and you will usually find where they pass under or thru. Most animals wont cross a cattle guard unless you stampeded em thru it.

It should be pretty close,as they are following the roador two track that goes over the guard.

Most spots i see are right next to the autogate, or within a few feet of it. Around my area we have wire gates next to them to move cattle through, normally they pass on the gate side here, as the wires are a little higher. If there crossing there you will see there trail easy enough.

It might depend on the type of fencing. Woven wire is popular in Texas b/c it can exclude or at least limit wild hogs. The fewer ways thru a fence the more popular each crossing point will be.

A good cattle guard makes animals learly to step on it (note the round tubing)

The cattle gate is a sure bet to check out (this one is 30 yards down the line
