That is how I made my waxed dirt last year. I don't make a lot like some guys so it worked for me. If I ever feel the need for.a lot I will get a bigger pot. I don't have a ratio although I can tell you sand takes less.wax than black dirt.

Wish I had more time to trap....

That's way more wax than you need for waxed sand. One pound of wax to 5 gallons of sand.

i made a bunch of waxed sand by taking the sand and putting in a 8in deep pan on my turkey fryer then put on heavy rubber chemical gloves or the short gauntlets and stirred the sand in the pan by hand until it was too hot to stir then shut off the flame and dumped in my wax and stirred it around once It was mixed you can see the sand change color to where it looks wet then I dumped it all in a big black plastic pan and my 6 year old stirred until it was cooled down. we made 70 pounds in about an hour that was heating 3 different batches it was super easy and very effective. I have not had it clump together at all and I am amazed at how well you can bed a trap in it versus waxed dirt. I have always used wax dirt in the past but I will not be using it ever again I will use the waxed sand from here on out. hope this helps I got this idea from posco on here this is basically how he does it and shared that info with me.

The roaster is good for small batches but don’t scorch your dirt or sand. You only need to get it about a 150* to melt the wax as long as your dirt is dry to start with. These days I make waxed dirt ( sand ) in a mixer and heat the outside with a weed burner. It only takes 4 minutes to get it hot enough to melt flaked wax .

Hope this helps !
Don

P.S. waxed dirt takes about a pound to a gallon of dirt. My sand takes about 8 oz. of wax to the gallon .
