Pitch rate = coyotes not worth skinning divided by Coyotes caught

The other day when he had 35 head he skinned 31. He told me today that Kansas coyotes needed about another week to become fully prime. (white leather).

I have trapped in the south western part of Kansas and didn`t freeze proof any sets while I was there.I am probably wrong but I would think most years the lower western half would be the same.If your going to try for numbers like this you cann`t be dealing with an inch of rain and 10 degree weather very much.Lots of coyotes is only part of it.I think he has a good chance of meeting his goal but I think he will run into lots of rubbed coyotes in the end.

After reading 4 episodes in the Furtaker and listening to the strong opinions on this man's trapping abilities, I feel that if 1000 coyotes is his goal - pay someone to skin! The extra time can be used to set traps and rest. It wouldn't take many $60 coyotes to pay for that skinning. I notice he gave himself 93 days to reach his goal. It is almost 2/3 over in time. And I have read many of this man's articles, I just didn't know who "Robert" was. I notice he is going to visit with his family a couple of days. Four hours of sleep ain't much, but it does turn in to several days. Skinning is more days yet. He is wasting his trapping skills skinning. Contrary to popular belief, I do admire the guy. But it has to make sense. With a month and 2 days to go, he said he had 466 or 476 as of yesterday. If your a furtaker, read the articles. Pretty neat the extremes he has gone to.

It's easy to say "pay someone to skin" it's another to find a qualified individual to do it away from home.

A good portion of Roberts living comes from fur trapping so he has to take that into consideration how to maximize his profits. If his margins weren't a consideration he'd chuck on the buyers floor in the round.

I have the list of "biggest catches" from O'Gorman. Their is no mention of the price, time span, or anything, just the year. I can appreciate a man that takes care of his fur. But catching and skinning 1000 makes it seem even more insurmountable, even when you throw out the bad. Just my opinion.

He set the parameters for his 1000 coyote quest. That he also skins them makes it just that more extraordinary a feat. You can well imagine if he was dumping them off to buyers in the round how many folks would denigrate his feat by saying: "Oh sure, anybody can do that if you don't do your own skinning".

Crazy numbers.... respect all of em! Someone said earlier about Phil having x number of reds in storage.... wonder how much the freezer $ is to store $15 fox that are now worth $5? Hopefully he hammers a bunch of yotes out there to help break even!

I may be wrong but a lot of these high catches by some trappers were not just during the fur season. OG was trapping ADC most of the time + the fur season.

Robert has a power skinner and If I can do a coyote on my skinner In 20 min I'm sure he's faster.
He's running out of freezer space that's why he's headed home.

Phil has solar panels running most of the place so I'd imagine his monthly power bill isn't much. When he stored those fox they were worth less than $10 and still are. It's a risk one takes.

Yes, my understanding is the electric company buys excess energy from him (and other solar electric generators). They credit it back to your bill at the same rate they charge.

Eh...wot?
