Ground some bait and lure bases today , sure is nice to have no flies to worry about. Who else had a hard time flies in September? I sure did even tried working in late night or real early a.m. and still ended up ruining some bait. Going to make a tainting box this year, got some big wood boxes from work to keep my buckets in . Should help to keep flies out better. Ive been making lures and baits now for 7 years now and just trying not to waste time and products. Thanks

when you get done grinding or chopping put it in a freezer till its rock hard. let it thaw in your fly proof vented bucket. that freezing kills any eggs a fly may have laid.

Those who would give up essential liberty, to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790)

If you use a wine vent and them screw on lids you should be able to keep the flys at bay

One of the keys to fly proofing your lure, bait and bases as they work and age is to begin with a good bucket with good O-ring and closure with the lid. I have been using tire valve stems inserted into the upper edge of the bucket about 1-1/2" -2" from the rim. Remove the inner valve core inside the stem to allow gas off as needed. Screw the cap on loosely to allow bleeding of gas and to prevent fly access.

Been doing this for years without issue. Don't over fill your containers as you will have pressure develop within the aging material and it will rise up the bucket wall 25% or more depending upon what you are working with and the temperatures you are aging under.

This venting technique will allow stacking of 4-5 buckets per row as we do in our shop. This really saves on storage area required for hundreds of buckets of material to be stored and monitored.

If flies are trying to get into your ground meat while you're working it a little glycerine dumped on it seems to keep them at bay. If one lands in it he doesn't have a chance the glycerine shuts them down. If I'm stopping to tear grinder apart etc I often either snap lid on or dump a layer of glycerine on top.

Same with mixing bait with flies present, put your glycerine in first if you have flies around
