Few weeks ago I scouted a new farm that was loaded with coyote poop and tracks. Awesome looking spot. I will be setting traps on it the day after Christmas.

Today I stopped in after work to have a chat with the farmer and noticed all the fields are loaded down with cow manure. They spread the fields with it yesterday. Mind you this is large cattle farm but with equal corn and hay fields.

My question is since I have never delt with a farmer spreading manure in the field during trapping season. What should I expect? More activity? Less? Or no change.
Thanks and merry Christmas

Don't know about more or less activity but I can tell you coyotes like to be around cows.
I'd say off hand the cow poo is a good thing...

They often spread the fields I trap from a large dairy farm. This is done generally in spring and summer though. If it is the liquid concentrate from the run off tanks as they do here, it generally doesn’t effect them to much after a good rain or a week or so probably. They will still travel the edges likely as those areas won’t be effected. I do know deer and other game will stay away for a bit in the field feeding but the coyotes will likely still skirt the edges. You may need a stronger lure as it will be tough to compete with as it can be pretty powerful. At least it is in the winter vs summer as they do here. I would set and see.

Better to deal with cow manure than human. Had the local honey wagon unload in one of the fields I was trapping. Really messed things up for me.....

Common sense is a not a vegetable that does well in everyone's garden.

Take a cow pie and try using it as backing somewhere else on the farm.
