This will be my first year selling fur and was just wondering if anyone had dealt with KanOkla fur company in Hunewell, Ks. They are the closest to me and I’d like to deal with them because of the location and simplicity. However, that being said this is my first year selling fur and want to deal with someone honest. I know my fur will be far from professional but would like to get out of it what it’s worth and maybe get some tips on how to improve in the future.

The first couple of years will be learning years for you. Most beginners think their fur is put up perfectly. Then comes the realization it isn’t. Or, they think their fur is top lot in terms of density, color, width of stretch, primeness etc. Trust me, we all make mistakes like this and it’s how we learn to do better in the future.

If the guy has been in business for awhile, chances are he’s decent. Go over and let him look at your put up fur. If you don’t like the offering, don’t sell it to him. But then you’ll have to travel further or ship to someone you’ve never dealt with and take your chances. At least with a local guy you can ask questions on how you can do better in the future.

As far as honesty goes, you also have to have realistic expectations about your fur. If the pelts are small, muddy furred, cut or shot (holes), unprime, poorly dried, etc, it isn’t fair to complain that the buyer was dishonest.

I’m putting up coyotes. And I understand my abilities are far from a seasoned veteran trapper. I’m only hoping to be offered a fair price for what I’m presenting, because being a novice I have no idea what it’s worth. I was just curious if anyone had dealt with them and could give me an idea of what to expect. As far as I know he’s been in business quite a while so he must be fair enough. I appreciate the response and will give it a shot, it’s all just fun for me anyways, any added income from the sport is just a bonus. Thanks guys!!!

You could take them your very best and very worst. See what they offer. If all good take the rest later

He is a cat buyer at our sale we have in the spring. He has always paid well at the sell. As far as what you can expect I cant say for sure but he did buy a couple oklahoma cats last year that had been shot and not sewed up for 50 or so apiece. He will do you fair I think. If this is your first year take your fur up there and see what he offers. There are a few diffent places this year to sell fur in kansas this year, trevor barnes is going through and grony will pass though. Talk to them all learn what you can from each one you talk to. Save a little fur and take it to your state convintion sale if yall have one.

Joining your state assn would help get you in the loop ,,ask a loved one for a membership for Christmas gift!
Personally I'd call guys listed here and ask http://www.kansasfurharvestersassociation.com/Districts.html
Also, ask your district director if he knows someone that might be willing to mentor you locally.

Have sold to Glen in the past some. He's pretty fair. No luck ever dickering with him. Either he buys it for what offered or he will tell u to take it home. Why not hold your fur and attend KS state fur auction and Glenn will be there along with competition so your liable to get more because of multiple buyers.

Although you may or may not get the best price at an auction i don't know that you would get the advice and opinion you are looking for. For the first few years i think one of the more valuable things you can do with your fur is get it judged heavily and get advice on what to make it better. I haven't sold to KanOkla but i haven't met a buyer in person that wasn't willing to lend the advice needed so he the next set of furs he sees of yours are of the better variety. Buying poor put up fur is not what they want. They want top shelf work done.

Ive sold to him for years. No dickering with him, pays what he says or take it home. Averaged $90 on 5 cats last year. Took a nice big cat to him last week and only got $60, said tops this year would be around $80 and would take a good cat to go over that. He said coyotes are in good demand this year and should be around $17-$20. Good luck. Call before you go.

Thanks everyone for all the advice, I really appreciate y’all taking the time to give me your thoughts and opinions. I guess I’ll just take some down there and see what he says, can’t learn if I don’t try. Have a merry Christmas everyone!
