All,
Been a while since spending any time on this forum but this year I got the bug to plant steel and that has led me back to you guys. I've got a question about fur for garments. What is the best way to put the fur up if my intent is to have it professionally tanned and then eventually used for garments (scarves, hats, etc.)? Should I just flesh and air dry? Additionally, can you guys suggest someone that specializes in turning your fur into garments? I'd like to get an idea of what to expect regarding price, style etc.

Thanks in advance ~
Slick

I've used "Furs for Fun" in Rupert ID. I like his tan and finished product, there is pricing on his website...

Most places won't take your pelts unless they are fleshed and dried. Something you don't have to do if you are using the fur for your own use and not selling it raw, is that you don't have to have any of the pelts fur out. For the fur market many need to be turned fur out, but you can skip that step making it easier for you and the tannery.

Do you want to do this in one step or two?

One step - find some one that will do the tanning and manufacture. They most likely will send the pelts out to bevtanned rather than do the tanning themselves. This might cost you extra money.

Two steps - have a professional tannery do the tanning. Then send the pelts to some one to make the items or you could make simple items yourself.

A good professional tannery is Moyle in Idaho. www.moytown.com

A good company for making things. Wild things in Wisconsin. www.wildthingsfur.com

Bearfoot Furs is a good place to consider having hats made.
