My suggestion is to tie the snares off to the fence post since I don't know what the condition of the barbed wire is . With either doubled up 14 or 12 ga wire

I tie off to the bottom strand of the barbed wire with doubled up wire. I use short snares, just long enough to make the loop and tie swivel to fence. If you tie off to the fence, I’d use a longer snare so the coyote can get a run and cinch down the snare for a quick kill. But if there is no kill right away, the coyote can sometimes power out by snapping the cable. Just the way I do it.

Good choice of snare locks I'd make them a minimum of 8' long but that's just me, food for thought I'd suggest at least 2" of space between the bottom of the loop to the ground so the target animals feet aren't so likely to end up in the snare loop .
Centex Trapper if coyotes are as you say powering out and snapping the snare cable you need some of the snares I make then snapped cable will be a thing of the past .

If I could do It I'd just drive In kill pole stake away from the fence and let them wind up around the kill pole. It would save the fence and get you a quicker dispatch.

I know a lot of people who snare under barb wire. I did when I first started to. But after seeing the coyote wrapped around a bunch of twisted wires and a chunk of fur hanging from every barb within 3 foot of the coyote I quit setting right under or near the wires. Now if I find a good location under wire I anchor my snare as far away from the wire as I can, but keeping the loop fairly close to the crossing. Then put a kill pole opposite side of the snare stake away from the fence . If I feel I need to crowd the critter in the snare under the crossing I take a small stake and make a hole or two to put some tall grass in or maybe an evergreen small branch or something else.... natural looking. I use 2 foot long 3/8" or 1/2" rebar stakes... size depends on situation.

Beav has it right. start the kill pole set as far away from the crawl under as possible and the crawl under will stay active. After the catch move a little closer to the crawl under. I have had crawl unders that had 8 burn circles within 20 yards of it. To boot barb wire tears up a yote hide. Just like not snaring cats in a briar patch, lol.

I use the bottom of the fence post for the snare anchor, I use long snare extensions so they can reach the next post down. There usually wrapped up on it and dead.
