So I heard through the grape vine that there are beaver trappers that are switching out the standard triggers on their 330 BGs and going to a pan system. They are saying It has increased the catch rate over the standard trigger system.
I don't remember the conversation but they were saying there Is a commercially built trigger system they are using.

Any one on here using that system?

I use em on 220's since we can only run 330s completely submerged. Chip Davis makes them under expandapan.

There are a single bolt attachement for use with belisles. I do have some on duke 160s as well but they set a bit awkward due to 2 bolt attachment.

That's the name expandapan.

So In your opinion would these pans make that much of a difference? I always figured If I could bend my triggers In T shape to get them under water I was good to go. So would you have to get the beaver walking or would they work when the beaver breasted out against the pan.

I modified a Belisle #330 about 3 years ago just to try it. Used 3/8" plywood. Just an enlarged version of what I run on my mink and marten 120's.
Worked great, but don't know if it worked any better than regular triggers.

Just doing what I want now.

They work good for me on my 160s in coon box’s and 120s in mink box’s.

As long as they cant float over the pan, youll catch them either way. The pans have enough bulk to them that it doesnt take a lot of pressure to fire the trap. You can probably go catch snakes with these these if you found somewhere its legal to do so.

On smaller beaver that come from the wrong side of the pan and its a few inches of water above the pan you could. On bigger beaver or beaver than you can have walking up to the set, no more than usual as even if they come from the wrong side, theyd fire the trap off at about the same position theyd be with the normal wire triggers.

Why would you do that on a beaver trap? You want the triggers out of the critters face.

I think you’d be asking for trouble if you expect to trap beaver with a coni pan on a 330. Might work at a castor mound with a partially submerged trap. However, the pan would be completely unnecessary. You can just put the dog on the bottom and bend the standard trigger so it’s fully submerged anyway.

A coni pan on a completely submerged trap would be asking for trouble. A beaver can swim clean through a 10” square. They are going to trip the coni pan with their hind feet while swimming through.

A 330 for beaver trapping is like a snap type mouse trap…hard to improve upon.
