Took one big beaver with a 330 guarding a submerged bank den on a river near me the first nite i set. Since then trap has been snapped off every night for a week. No sticks in jaws nothing. I pulled trap and made a castor mound set 40ft away. Well see how that works Question is how many beaver should i expect to catch? Was planning on 2 and moving on
Anyway Thanks

If there were only 2 to start with you may have problems catching that last one in a 330 if it has been firing your 330 even if it is set on a castor mound. I hope it works for you but if it does not, snares or footholds are the answer to 330 shy beaver. If you can rig a snare to guard that bank den you might get that "smart"one.

Sounds like rats to me. What kind of 330 are you using? I only run belisles and I know when it’s rats or smart beaver. Belisle 330s would have answered your question already. As far as I am concerned you have 2 options. Pull the 330 and put back in 2 weeks. Which is a great way to trip up a smart beaver or put a rat colony trap in the bank run. If it has rats the next day your question is answered or it will be pushed out and roughed up by the beaver.

Yes i can try a snare was gonna give it a few days to settle down. Running a mix of traps but i belive a sleepy creek 330 was the trap in place. Agree completely about Belisles, but i only wave a few of them and use them for otter sets. Thanks gents

Slide the trigger toward 1 side. Rats will often scoot on through but you might nab the beaver you are after.

I've had good luck moving the triggers to the side also to eliminate rat trips. Only draw back is hip catching small beaver or otter.

I have to think that having the trap snapped every day for a week without a rat getting caught seems unlikely. I run plain old Duke 330's and catch a LOT of rats in them and it is a rare event when one is sprung and empty. Sure rats do it sometimes but I doubt they could get away with it for 7 days without one getting caught. I feel that you have an educated beaver here. I hope I am wrong and you have my condolences if I'm right.

Sound like also to me a educated beaver. Is there a place near the den that a bottom edge set could be use. I got a lot that way also a spot that they need to swim through that is narrow? You can look to see those places.
