I am constantly getting unwanted coons in my dirt hole sets. No bait. Just a hole, with some Fox lure. There are too many coons to eliminate them all. I set DP's and live traps around my dirt holes, just to reduce the coon #'s. But just too many coons around.
I'm seeing coons on my cams every night, and Fox a few times a week.
Is there a Fox lure that will turn off coons ??

Coon are heavily attracted to fox and coyote gland lures and baits. And mink based change up lures and beaver castor. Catch them, put them up and send to Fur Harvesters. Or sell locally. They may not be worth much, but they’ll pay gas money and give you something to do while waiting for canines.

I don’t know what traps your running but for coyote traps, crank your pan pressure up to about 4# . This will eliminate all but the trophy coon ! Not always. I caught a small coon by one front and one back foot in a 550 with 4 pound pan tension. I put up all the coon I catch because like Teacher send, it's gas money.
Wish I had more time to trap....

Finally.. finally got my 1st Fox. After eliminating coons, at least for the most part, I remade the set. Did a small wood log backer. Maybe 2" in diameter. Didn't go too crazy with the dirt hole. and then stuffed a squirrel tail 1/2 way down the hole. 2 days later, got my Fox.
Pan tension very very light. Got him by the back leg.
At least 12 coons, and there are still more.. But I'm happy. Being a weekend trapper, I may call it a season.

If you remake that fox set you should have another very soon. I had a cam on the set. Another Fox came in while Fox #1 was in the tight chain. One picture with 2 Foxes, and then it went back to 1 Fox. So there is another Fox in the neighborhood. We'll see what happens. Had to work OT, and didn't get back out there...

well when setting any location you should be making at least 3 sets at that location. At times that will give you doubles. And It also takes care of those incidentals that may fill a single trap location.
When we had fox and I trapped them the biggest and the best coon were always caught In those fence lines and out In those open fields where I made a fox set.

Coon are worth about the same as fox right now and maybe more. I will take every coon I can get. I do always set at least 2 sets. I have had a few triples on fox and several doubles along with one fox and a coon or skunk in the next set. I have a spot I make 6 sets within a 50 yard trail. Mix em up to give all the critters something to look at.
Wish I had more time to trap....
