Caught a gray fox today and had him just by the toes. I find a number of sprung traps and am wondering what I am doing wrong that I may be missing them. I just about missed this one. This is my first post and I hope that the picture shows up.

Make sure your trap is bedded rock solid. Press around the edges and check for movement. If you have any wiggling, you need to re-bed. This will solve almost all of these issues. Good luck and keep at it!

Thanks for the reply. Also what would you do with this location? Would you reset this trap in the same place. It is just completely mud and water.

Move just outside the catch circle and make a new set

When I see a toe catch my first thought is pan tension. If it’s too light they can set it off by stepping next to the pan and not directly on it. I could be totally wrong but that’s my theory.

I was thinking the same thing as BOB. Looks like could be too light on the pan tension. Could be bedding too especially with all the water after setting. Move outside the catch circle use peat moss. I personally would dig a Zagger type bed with a fairly deep hole under the trap for the watter to go.
