I am currently running a princeton tec and its fine....hate the AAAs tho....what I would really like is something with an internal lithium rechargable and a single AA in the same unit....anyone? I assume the lithium rechargables still work good at -40 which is the downfall of alkaline batteries...

Fenix HM23 LED Headlamp

I've been using this lamp for several months for work. Very impressed with the area of light and brightness. I can run it almost 10 hours on low (not the super low). I've got the Spec 1 option.

I got a rechargeable Milwaukee unit before hunting season and have used it since then. A bit heavy, but super bright with 4 or 5 different modes. I love the rechargeable feature, just make sure you remember to charge it. It rolls along real bright, but when it's low it blinks a few times and is done. Not an issue if you recharge.

I cant find my exact model, but mine is similar to this. Rechargeable with USB, crazy bright and lasts many hours. Reactive technology which means it senses stuff up close and dims if needed.

Only think I dont like is that it dims on your breath in the cold air.

I started researching a better headlamp recently. There's a good thread on Rokslide Forum about which headlamp for hunting, etc. Two very popular brands were the Zebralight and Fenix. They use 1 rechargeable AA. I think I will have the Fenix HL60R under the Christmas tree next week - hope I like it.

Hmmm. A single AA battery seems suspect.

I use the same one Hutchy uses. I use mine everyday and love it. On my second one now, the first lasted me a few years before I broke it.

I have a fenix hp15 that works well for the price it has lasted about 5 years powered by 4 AAs (black sanyo eneloops last the best in the cold)

Aso have a lupine neo. I really like it, lithium ion packs are expensive, but last longer in the cold. Also the wiring is cold rated to -40F, if that's a factor for you I hit that and colder more often than I'd like on my lines. Had it for 2.5 years and it's going strong. Wife stole it this year tho, so I may have to upgrade...

I was looking at the website the other day and it appears they are making them with replaceable rechargeable battery packs now? The only thing I don't like about mine is that when it dies, say on an extended trip, you can't recharge it. Another battery would be amazing.

I have had a Lupine for the last 5 years super dependable when i am not working it gets used on a daily basis. Yes they are pricey but you get what you pay for.

I have a Coast HL8R
Uses 4AA batteries.
Lasts along time and is very bright on high setting.
Has high & low beam settings to conserve juice.
If you are worried about making a fashion statement or carrying a few ounces more on your head this is not the light for you.
But if you want a well made, heavy duty, long lasting head lamp, I'd definitely check this one out.

I miss the old light that had a red plastic case holding 4 D batts. Had a cord going to a light that fit on your head/hat. Keeping that batt pack in your coat and warm sure helped with battery strength.
