I have a hard time ever pulling disposable stakes up, I don’t know if it’s my ground or I’m over zealous and drive them in to far. I usually drive them 12+ inches in. Anyone else have that problem?

I guess that could be considered a good problem.

Like NEWT said, theyre disposable. I consider a cabled wolf fang disposable. If I can get them great but 95% I cant because of rock hard frozen ground. I have chained superstakes that I like to get back in the spring.

how are you loosening up the soil before pulling?.........Didn't you get that memo in the instruction book?

I drive a stake at least 1/2 way down and waller it around on 2 or 3 places around the cable, breaking up the soil a bit so my Berkshires don't fold over.....and I use HD Berkshires with the Carman modification, hole drilled in the end.

My stakes are not coming out of the ground until spring at least. They are frozen in. Being planned as disposable anyone I am able to get back is a treat but right now only my water line anchor come out.

I do realize they are disposable, but I also know that if they are fixed to the trap I have the same problem. Being why I haven’t invested in super stakes and such. That said, even though they are “disposable” they come with a cost. We don’t have $15 coon and $80 yotes to off set the price of stakes every year. Just looking for tips.

As for pulling them, we don’t really have frozen ground here in Arkansas, but I have broken 3/32 cable trying to pull them. I’ll try to drive a driver around some and see how they pull up then. Thanks for the info.

I suppose worst case, take a small shovel with you. I've done that before when I wanted them out so I didn't hit them with equipment, and you don't need to dig the entire thing out. Just dig half way down and it'll pull out a lot easier.

I use dirt hole bit with battery operated electric drill
Drill next to and along cable to anchor
Pull out by hand
Sometimes takes hole on both sides of cable

Might work for you but when the ground is harder than concrete it doesn't work well. Pick axe and shovelnor leave until spring.

Wish I had more time to trap....

Drill and an auger bit. I can pull 30 traps with 12” or 18” super stakes in about 35 minutes. Before the drill I’d be lucky to get 3 an hour!

Of course if you’re getting paid an hourly rate it doesn’t help you any, lol!

I'd buy a puller if I was you, Alex. It's a good investment. Get the rounded 1 as it works better than the straight 1.
Secondly, there is nothing to be ashamed of with your removing your so called "disposable" anchors. You can get a lot of uses out of them, you can save $ by reusing them, & you aren't wasting a resource or leaving 'trash' behind.

Good luck. You will like how easy the puller works. Be a little careful though b/c I was pulling too hard once & went flying on my rear, but I think that was in winter conditions up here.
