I’ve lost 3 fox to coyote recently. Coyote comes around checking my areas looking for trapped fox but seems to know there’s traps there and won’t hit any sets. Trail camera has confirmed this. How can I catch this guy?

Find where it's main travel points are make a few blind sets. Also since you have trail cam footage you can judge how far it is circling the sets with fox or your sets with out fox and place 3 to 4 well blended traps around them maybe even place some fox dropping by one or two of them. Did this a few years back when I had the same issue got the coyote in a blended in trap outside the catch circle of a dead red fox 3 days later. Best of luck.

Are they just killing them or killing them and hauling them away? If still In the trap how bad are they tore up?

The last 3 have been ripped out of the traps and carried away.

Last year I had one just killed and still in trap, caught that coyote a few days later

This is a reoccurring series of events for about the last 6 years and always at this same location

If they are avoiding your sets, you need a change up. Call the Coyotes and shoot 'em. Try calling, Try blind trail sets, try CR's (Cable Restraints).
Use your woodsmenship. Doesn't matter to me how I get them into the fur shed.

I've had Reds killed by Coyotes. Never had one carried off.

If he's checking you're traps for you, you know where he's going on a regular basis. We have a full moon coming up, find a good ambush spot and wait him out one night soon. I wouldn't try calling, some of those older yotes are darn near uncatchable let alone try to call in.
I have a yote like that on a area I trap to. Good luck

We just got some snow, I might try ambushing him. He’s been checking my one spot with the camera between 7-9pm lately.

I caught that fox at 5 pm the other night and have my cell cam there. The yote came by at around 7pm and I didn’t realize it at first. Then he came back later and got the fox

This coyote killed a trapped grey fox and then got caught in another set about 10 yards from the fox. I could see how it all played out in the snow.

Smart Coyote. Free lunch, & he knows where to go back.

Just a weekend trapper...

I’ve had to deal with this three times. Each time I’ve used the foxes feet down a dirt hole and killed several yotes with it. Make sure you pick up every scrap of the killed fox. Good luck.

I'm itchin' to see a coyote twitchin'.

More trappin' and less yappin'.

Might try a buried bait set with a skinned out fox as a bait

I use this, not because of fox killers, just because it catches coyotes. Coyote paws work too.

I would probably move 20 yards away and make a mouse hole set with a tiny meat bait and no other scent.
