As the breeding season gets closer and Toms start cursing what are your favorite late season tactics?

Sets?
Location?
lures?
call scents?

Probably not much change from what most already do.Trails under ledges,on saddles or just about any travelway that might connect one female territory to another.Have some gland lure and urine at lured sets as well as other lures.Bait may or may not be as effective as earlier.

I like those isolated little rock piles away from the mountain. Travelling/breeding toms seem to seek those out, even if there is no sign there. Also, lone juniper trees. Saddle/pass locations.

I like a simple cat gland lure and urine in a walk through. Droppings add eye appeal.

Laz,

Do you tend to find more cats high or low? Everything down low where I'm at now burnt in 2018 but I found some sign up high, a buddy from work on the next range has pretty much killed them on the flats this year.

Those big wandering toms go everywhere. They especially seem to like those lone rock piles out on the flats, or the last little rocky point that comes down off of a ridge, or rock points at the mouth of a canyon. And they like those little passes (like the photo above). Any of those ledges or overhangs where there is sandy soil. Sometimes they will have droppings and sometimes they will just have a little scoop mark in the sand with no droppings. They are looking for sign where a female might be and those are all the "contact points" where they may be able to find or leave a message.

Going out tomorrow to put in some blind sets. Was scouting yesterday and seen cat tracks all over. Suppose to have freezing rain snow mix today or they would be out now. Filled both tags last year with blind sets.
