So I will be sending some otter off to be tanned this year and in the past I have only used GNF. Last year my order did end up getting transferred to Tubari though. As we all know GNF has now closed and I have been debating on which tannery to try? I had went with GNF as I was pleased with the work but the best part was the shipping was very reasonable as I was able to ship using speedy. I see sleepy creek is in IA so I would also be able to use speedy but I am unaware of their work. While reading the recent thread on otter singe and a few people stating that it happens in the tanning stage as well I would rather not gamble on a tannery. I have been saving my otter from past years and am planning on using them for clothing article's or possible a blanket so looking for a nice soft tan without them coming back torn or holes added to them. I know Moyles is a popular one but does anyone have a specific tannery they would recommend for otter?

I've had Sleepy Creek do garment tanning for me, coons, coyotes, rats and beaver. No complaints.

I've sent my fur to Sleepy Creek the last 2 years and have always been pleased with result. I'm planning to send 2 coyotes and a red again this year.

Shipping can be a factor. Southern Idaho isn’t exactly close to Minnesota and I’ve noticed that Moyles does tend to pad the return shipping charges.

Moyles went up on there prices some and have a few new rules about maken sure the fur was lawfully taken. I think they would rather only deal with license fur buyer is the way I take it. I have always sent to sleepy creek and they give me no problems.

Probably. I don’t pay attention to those charges because they don’t apply to me. I drop off and pick up in person. Much easier than trying to ship wolves and beaver and other bulky creatures.

I once ordered from a place that charged not only shipping and handling but a $5.00 order processing fee. I thought what the.... five bucks just to process an order. On top of the profit you are already making. That was just weird.

I was very pleased with Tubari, I had a coyote done there and one done at Moyles. The Tubari was softer and didn't have a bunch of holes like the Moyles one did.

I have had fur tanned at Moyle, GNF, Sleepy Creek, Tubari and Z&L. No terrible experience with any of them. Turnaround time has not always been great with Moyle and we know the deal with GNF coming apart at the seams. And it appears that Moyle has got their turnaround back to a more reasonable time frame.

Moyle is my 1st choice based on comparison of the pelts they did versus the other tanneries.

That’s an understatement....$22 to ship a tanned single fisher hide to Pa. It could have shipped USPS flat rate for $6 at that time.

Z&L for me. Cheapest, close proximity to ship, fast turn around, and great work. Plus Leo’s a nice guy to deal with.

I would recommend Arlington Cape in Ohio for anything you want tanned. Keith does a great job, quick turnaround time and VERY reasonably priced.

I think the last time at GNF I got charged a $10 processing fee. I agree on that being messed up as that was on top of the shipping and their tanning services.
