Water going to freeze up and would like to keep trapping mink. Been hammering them on bottom edge sets. I was going to put out some boxes with a 110 connibear. Don't have the pans and setting tomorrow. Wondering best trigger placement for them.

Get some 1 pound test fishing line and tie it to the trigger wires

I put one strait down. The other comes straight down then is bent at a 45 dgree angle half way down. Move the trigger to the side with the bent wire pointing to center.

And that trigger placement is effective on mink? Don't deter them to much?

Yeah just homemade. Most times mink don't even pull the stabilizer spike.

I think Newt wants the trigger down to prevent any potential fur damage from the trigger on the animals back. I do this even for coons.

Just for clarity, I’m not a mink trapper per say. But in my coon boxes I put one trigger wire straight down and the other is straight across. I have found that I don’t catch hardly any small coon. Can’t help but wonder if this same trigger placement wouldn’t eliminate some females as well as the smaller males ?

Come to think of it I do the same thing on 330’s to avoid rats and mink from my beaver sets.

When you say "trigger down" do you mean on a bottom ground level jaw with trigger wires standing upward?

The only constant in trapping is change so keep learning.

Trigger wires up, yes. Bent in whatever configuration you like. Just make sure there is enough clearance under the dog to let is release from the jaw.

Thank you for the clarification. That's the trigger position I recommend at all times with the exception being diving water sets.
